    Excellent Media Sever Board

I used this board for a workstation/media server. There are plenty of expansion slots for add-in boards. The sound is excellent. This board would be great for a gamer, as it is SLI/Crossfire capable. Read more

Bad Customer Service - Defective products

The motherboard was defective which is much more difficult to isolate and define than a DOA. Specially with the lame support for Gigabyte who closes any ticket after posting a useless comment. So they can have a good ticket closing record... ... Read more

5 out of 5 eggs Great board. Nothing really bad to say about it

Pros: -Very nice and stable board. Plug it and forget it. I had not one issue when settings it up. Everything worked as expected and setup was quick and easy. It has all the right features I wanted at a reasonable price.

Cons: -Not sure what the deal is with Audio, DAC, etc... I am not sure if anyone really use built-in audio. I sure don't and plugged a Soudblaster Z right away... I would rather save and not have any of those fancy extra audio stuff on my board...

Bottom Line: I wanted an easy to setup and stable board and that's exactly what I got. Long gone are the days of the 990FX and constant crashing...

5 out of 5 eggs Great overclocking/gaming board

    Pros: Easy to overclock
    Great build quality
    Perfect for multi-card set ups
    Great onboard sound
    Lots of ports
    Perfect color scheme

    Cons: None

Bottom Line: I've owned this board for a few months and it's been a great board, no issues loading in a 4790k and clocking it up past 4.7ghz on water cooling. Running crossfire 290x set up, and while the onboard sound is very decent, I had a creative soundblaster titanium fatal1ty already and this board leaves plenty of space to add these cards on without interfering.

I've never owned gigabyte before but I am very impressed with board this board on their windforce 290x cards.

1 out of 5 eggs Two bad boards in a row

    Pros: Fast shipping?

Cons: I've built a lot of systems, and Gigabyte and Asus are the only two companies to produce bad boards for me. I realize it happens to everyone, but I bought two Gigabyte boards in a row and they both failed. I've lost HOURS swapping parts and trouble shooting. Both instances, it was the mobo. One was this GT model and the other is the Z97 Gaming 7.

1 out of 5 eggs Garbage!

Pros: NONE! Might as well use a wet piece of cardboard as a motherboard.

Cons: This motherboard is a pile of garbage and I have had nothing but constant problems with it upon arrival. Very touchy, settings and BIOS are goofy and it overclocks like a drunk hobo.

Went from some cheap ASRock motherboard to this because I needed extra space and I have regretted it ever since. Stick with what works people. It will be along time before I try a Gigabyte motherboard again. Not happy at all, All my hardware worked perfectly in old motherboard. I question my sanity after using this motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggs Not enough cred

    Pros: Z97 chipset
    Good audio
    Multiple PCI e ports
    Nifty bios and bios switch

Cons: No wifi or Bluetooth out of the box like other MBs

Can't get the hdd light to work?

Bottom Line: I don't think the reviews are entirely accurate for the motherboard. I understand that's some have DOAs, but I didn't not. This board has been fantastic. I've got it pared up with and i7 4770k processor and a 240m water cooler. The amount of options with his board is great. I love setting this thing up in raid with two ssds. And having so many sata and PCI e ports to choose from is only one of the good things about this board.Don't let the reviews scare you, when you get one that works, you'll love it.

4 out of 5 eggs Solid board

    Pros: - Good looks

    - Even the box it came in was pretty nice, plastic rather than cardboard.

    - Gigabyte's UEFI interface is getting better and better, it's still not quite as good as Asus's latest, but it works well and is easy to navigate

    - Supports up to four video cards with the PLX chip

    - Plenty of ports for extra fans and such

    - Plenty of USB 3.0 ports both internal and external.

    Cons: - It's not cheap

    - No Sound Blaster hardware on this board, you get the SB software suite, but the audio is handled by the Realtek ACL1150, which is fine as far as on-board sound goes

    - The first PCI-E X16 slot is positioned high on the board, if you used a closed loop liquid CPU cooler, this can cause a problem with radiator mounting locations with some cases. Depending on the case the radiator mounting location may result in the radiator blocking the top PCI-E X16 slot

    - defaults to way too much CPU voltage with the i7-4790k, every with the latest F5 BIOS. At stock clocks it defaulted to 1.39v. That's ridiculous. I dialed it back to 1.28 volts at 4.7 Ghz and it's stable and runs significantly cooler, though the i7-4790k tends to run hot anyway.

    - replaceable OP AMP is pretty gimmicky

Bottom Line: I've used Gigabyte boards exclusively for my last 3 builds and the last few builds I've done for other people. They perform well and are built pretty well too. The GA-Z97X Gaming GT has some minor issues, but overall it's a pretty good board so far.

4 out of 5 eggs Great Board; Poor Linux Audio Quality

Pros: This is an update to my previous review...

Gigabyte responded promptly to my negative review and worked with me on troubleshooting. It turns out the board does NOT have defective audio as it works correctly in Windows 7.

Cons: The audio quality under Linux Mint 17 (Ubuntu 14.04, kernel 3.13) is extremely poor to the point of being unusable. So far this board is the only system on which I have experienced these audio problems, so it does not seem to be very common. I found numerous workarounds to similar-sounding issues, however none of these yielded any perceptible change in audio quality.

Gigabyte was unable to provide any support outside of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. This is very disappointing to me. I doubt that I will purchase Gigabyte products in the future.

Bottom Line: I wish NewEgg would allow a review to be modified.

1 out of 5 eggs Terrible Audio

Pros: This board is beautiful to look at, and meshes well with the overall red color them of my components and LEDs. I haven't experienced any stability problems, although my initial attempts at over-clocking yielded no boot up (which is easily resolved)

Cons: The audio quality is the worst I have ever heard out of a computer. Both my high-quality analog speakers and my bluetooth headset experience the exact same problem - noisy, crackly, staticy audio. Worse, it works both directions - in hangouts everyone is complaining that they are getting loads of static from my end. The audio capabilities of this board sound good on paper and I am horribly disappointed.

The bios is a pain. I have found lots of suggestions online on how to work around this issue, only to discover the necessary settings don't exist on this board's bios. There are also 4 different management interfaces based upon your goals. They seem to interact strangely, atlhough I haven't figured out exactly what gives.

Also, Gigabyte's support system is terrible. I still haven't been able to file a ticket. You must provide loads of information including make, model, and specs of every component of your build in addition to the BIOS version and serial number of your motherboard. In short, plan on opening your case and visiting your bios to fill this out -- do it from a different computer or like me you'll get halfway through the process and have to restart.

Bottom Line: The two most important criteria for a product are:
    1. Does it work?
    2. Can I use it for its intended purpose?
    3. Will its useful life be enough to recuperate the cost to purchase?

This board fails at #2. It is a gaming board with unusable audio.
