Excellent for Photoshop/Lightroom

5 out of 5 eggs
I built a desktop geared specifically for Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4.1 photo editing with this chip. I didn't go for the 3770K as I don't plan on overclocking (this is an editing box only, no games). I'm very happy with it's performance; I'm now able to process edits in significantly less time (than with a Xeon dual core) and the integrated graphics are definitely powerful enough to run both Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4.1. I have only encountered a handful of filters that take upwards of 6-8 seconds to apply (ie, Blurs, etc.) so I'm not in an IMMEDIATE rush to order a dedicated Graphics card just yet but will be pursuing when the prices drop a bit more (WEI Graphics Score is a 6.5) . One note; make sure you go to Intel's website and download the latest driver for the HD Graphics 4000 after installing. Don't rely on the status of the driver in Windows Device Manager. It says it's up to date, but it wasn't. Some PS filters wouldn't preview until after I updated the driver.

This processor is awesome. I don't feel the need to overclock at all, considering how well this performs at stock speeds. And even on the non-K model, Turbo Boost means that you get up to 3.9 GHz when it detects you need a little more speed to do what you need to. I don't use the onboard GPU, but it seems to help out a little when using Virtu MVP. I do a lot of video editing along with gaming, and my render times are so fast it's ridiculous. Most of the time it renders faster than real time (a 10 minute video will take 7 minutes to render). I don't know what else to say here. It's awesome. It's an i7.

5 out of 5 eggs Happy customer

Pros: Great CPU, this is exactly what I paid for, no less no more. I have had no issues in 3+ months of usage. Not much to say except it works well.

Cons: Stock fan sucks, as usual. I would recommend buying a good fan if you were to use your computer for 8+ hours a day every day. You shouldn't worry though, the stock fan is still good at what it is supposed to do.

5 out of 5 eggs Great cpu

Pros: If you can, go for the K model for this and overclock it. Personally I don't need to because this is more then enough for me but for all the newbies out there wanting something powerful and efficient, either this or the K model of this is your answer.

Cons: No cons, this thing is great

5 out of 5 eggs Great for multitasking

Pros: Great. I built my first computer with it (the one I'm on now). When I chose it I knew I wanted Intel (old reliable) and I knew I couldn't afford the top of the line 4960X. This thing Is amazing. I used the built in graphics for games up until recently. I recommend getting a graphics card for games but it will play everything at decent frames. The built in graphics are perfectly fine for basic computer use. I can run as many programs as I want and it keeps them all up and running. Boot time with WD black edition HDD! is less than 10 seconds. Over a year still working like the day it was new.

Cons: Price I guess? It is definitely worth every cent though.

Bottom Line: AMD has a higher clock for a lower price but Intel has been making processors longer.

4 out of 5 eggs Great CPU, terrible fan

Pros: The CPU is wonderful. Very fast. When overclocked to 3.9 I was able to encode a 3 hour video in 15 minutes.

Cons: The CPU fan died within 1 week of getting it. Not a huge deal as I already had a replacement on the way.

Bottom Line: Wonderful CPU just be ready to replace the fan.

5 out of 5 eggs Video encoding fast

Pros: I sometimes convert one of my DVD movies (ISO Pre-ripped to hard drive) to MKV to view on the go. It takes about 10 minutes to convert 2 hour movie to HQ MKV, 29 FPS, 5.1 passthru with Handbrake. I'm using a 7200 RPM hard drive. With an SSD, who knows. Scary fast.

Cons: NONE

4 out of 5 eggs Great CPU, Bad heatsink

Pros: Fast and reliable.

Cons: This is the first time I had to buy an aftermarket cooler. The stock fan did a poor job of keeping the CPU cool. 37c idle, 102c when converting a video file. Replacing the cooler solved this problem.

Bottom Line: Other than the cooling issue I would recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggs Excellent....!

Pros: Easy to install, and runs cooler than my old i3!

What can I say. It's a CPU, and it's the fastest my motherboard takes. I highly doubt I will ever purchase one of the even higher-end chips, so this is great.

The chip is easy to install, and even with the stock cooler -- under high load -- the temps are within normal ranges.

Cons: Expensive, probably overkill for most people.

Put simply: I think most people would LOVE my old Intel Core i3. So unless you are doing video editing, video rendering, or complicated emulation, etc. -- Save some cash.

Bottom Line: I just upgraded from an Intel Core i3 2100 to this. The difference is actually quite subtle on most tasks, but where it shines is Premiere CC --- I don't use CUDA, so I can actually have sane render times for simple effects. As in, what would take an hour or more on the old i3 is much more reasonable with this chip.

A standard definition MPEG-2 DVD render that is an hour long clip is faster than real-time, with the maximum quality settings within the main concept encoder.

I don't make BluRay discs -- That's best left to a mastering house. That being said, the HD MPEG-2 renders are also acceptable in terms of speed. H.264 as well.

Also, this chip makes encoding with x264 [using the slow settings] much more sane, as expected!

Considering the fact that I dealt with an old Athlon 64X2 from 2007-2013, I know this chip will last me for a few years. Most likely, I will build a new machine once there is a 5th or 6th generation i7 -- Or whatever comes next, with this box being another to keep around!
