5 out of 5 eggs For Experienced Installers Looking for a Quick Fix

    Pros: * Excellent price:feature ratio
    * Great software

Cons: * None, if expectations aren't unreasonable.

Bottom Line: NAS surveilance solutions aren't for rugged or warm environments. Don't use them there.
If you need to get a camera setup with less than 200 fps, you're on a tight budget and on a time crunch (or any two), this setup is amazing.

1 out of 5 eggs Overpriced

    Pros: Works with inexpensive cameras

Cons: Way to expensive and falls into the crippleware category.

Bottom Line: I only need to add one more camera for a total of two. I already had sunk costs with this system. If I were starting from scratch. I would look elsewhere.

2 out of 5 eggs Too Expensive

    Pros: The server works great

Cons: These per-camera licenses are horribly expensive.

Bottom Line: Synology should ship with fully enabled software - not limited crippleware.

2 out of 5 eggs Not bad... but too expensive

Pros: Pretty complete package... as good as most any other DVR system on the market. Try the free, built in 1-camera license first to see if you like it.

It's hard to criticize base on features only.

Cons: EXPENSIVE! Yeah, other comparisons were made to THE most expensive systems you can buy BUT I assure you, there are alternatives that cost less than 1 license and supports 24+ cameras with MORE features than this one.

... and runs on an inexpensive Windows platform.

Bottom Line: The DiskStation itself rocks! I store 100's of gigs of surveillance video using Blue Iris.

3 out of 5 eggs Camera License Pakcs

Pros: Synology makes it relatively easy to add cameras, just buy a license or license pack and add the key to the Surveillance Station software.

Cons: You have to wait for a license pack to ship. It's a license KEY, not some type of hardware. How about a link to download the key once you've purchased the license pack.

5 out of 5 eggs Value

Pros: The software is awesome. VERY comparable to higher-end Axis software and others on that level. Easy to use and like the multiple simultaneous playback.

Cons: None that I can see so far. Will update if something weird comes up.

Bottom Line: To the reviewer giving a low score because of the price, have you seen the price of other surveillance camera software??? This is a steal compare to most of them considering the features and how advanced it is. You clearly don't know much about licensing and the value of this type of license. These type of licenses run in the range of $200 per camera, and most of them have to be purchased in packs and don't have the option for just one license.

1 out of 5 eggs Really?!

    Pros: None

Cons: Completely overpriced - I'm not sure what Synology is thinking. Great NAS unit but 60 bucks to add another camera license? Somebody thinks we're suckers...
