    Pretty good but fair QC

I have bought several of the AAKX drives in various sizes. All are a speed improvement over previous AAKS drives. HDTune4.6 Pro reports of MAX MB/s 125-ish and MIN MB/s 65-ish. Access times sub 13ms. This is the standard Benchmark reports. ... Read more

4 out of 5 eggs WD- Great!

Pros: No problems at all. Great, reliable, always go for WD.

Cons: Only reason I am giving a 4 star is based off the speed (16mb cache) - newer ones (32mb cache) with 1TB are almost the same price.

Bottom Line: No complaints - used to replace a harddrive- does the job well.

3 out of 5 eggs Good but, ...

Pros: Nice drive. I have 5 of them. While I like WD drives, 1 of the 5 died just after the 2 year warranty ran out.

Cons: 1 of 5 drives died just after 2 years.

3 out of 5 eggs Lasted over 3 years

Pros: Worked well for many years. I have had extremely good results from buying WD drives over the past decade.

Cons: SMART monitoring revealed early signs of failure a few weeks ago.

Bottom Line: I bought this in the summer of 2011 to replace a smaller slower SATA drive that I used in an older computer. I was very happy with the price vs. performance of this drive, and never had any negative issues at all until recently. When the SMART monitor started detecting problems I made some rudimentary attempts to fix the issues. The drive still "worked," but the issues could not be corrected, and I decided "better safe than sorry" and retired the drive. I did not lose any data, and backed all my files up to another machine and replaced it with a WD10EZEX 1TB drive. (The other drive I was using in the machine, a WD5000AAKS, is older and still works fine.)

5 out of 5 eggs WD blue 500gb

Pros: Installed it in the PC, plugged in the SATA and power, booted up the computer, went into disk management and formatted the drive and so far it runs fine without issue or excessive noise.
Currently installed as a secondary drive containing games and movies and swap file.

    Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggs Failure in less than a year

Pros: Drive worked fine for ~10 months.

Cons: Drive failed in less than a year. Computer was making a clicking noise for a little while. Suddenly the drive stopped being detected by SATA (not even in CMOS) and here I am.

Going to attempt to reach WD to see about warranty support.

5 out of 5 eggs Hard Drive

Pros: Price is low. Needed it for a first time build and as of now I have no need for 1TB yet, considering a second to run in raid.

    Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggs good for 2 years

    Pros: Fast
    stable

Cons: Lasted a month after the 2 year warrenty ran out and just started to die. Unusable as it will frequently freeze my computer.

Bottom Line: I cant recommend anything that doesnt last 3-4 years so this is a no go.

5 out of 5 eggs Still works great

Pros: Just for the record. This HD came in the hp desk top I bought in 2009 and it still operates as new. I bought the Blue 1 Tb 64 mb cache thinking maybe it was time to upgrade , loaded up the OS W7 and ran Windows performance index and the score actually dropped one whole point. The 1 Tb was noticeably slower, so idk.

    Cons: It's not an SSD

Bottom Line: This 500 mb WD Blue is five years old and I noticed that it feels slightly heavier than the (new) WD Blue 1 Tb , that actually seems slower. Windows index went from 6.9 to 5.9 with the old WD 500 scoring 6.9. Sounds to me like the newer HDD's are ****. I would buy these WD Blue 500 HDD's, but will the new one be as good as the old one?
