    Pretty good but fair QC

I have bought several of the AAKX drives in various sizes. All are a speed improvement over previous AAKS drives. HDTune4.6 Pro reports of MAX MB/s 125-ish and MIN MB/s 65-ish. Access times sub 13ms. This is the standard Benchmark reports. ... Read more

4 out of 5 eggs Great drives for money

Pros: Great drives for the money, reliable...

Cons: If using in a high frequency write installation, these drives seem to fail somewhat early compared to black drives, but still a great value.

1 out of 5 eggs Failed after one use

    Pros: ?

Cons: I had used it only once to clone my OS hard drive. I kept this HD in my desktop (unpowered and SATA disconnected). I came back to check it and plugged it it. All it did was made hard clanking noises.

2 out of 5 eggs Failed after 1 Year of Use

Pros: was a pretty good price for the drive
    -7200 RPM
    -6.0GB/S

Cons: It failed on me after 1 single year of use. When I started up my computer, all I heard was the drive grinding and sometimes the OS wouldn't even boot. It ended up corrupting a lot of my files.

4 out of 5 eggs Alright HDD

Pros: Good (less than 50$ at time of purchase) GB/dollar of most other well reviewed HDDs.

Cons: Died after 2 years, 9 months of nearly continuous service.

Bottom Line: Bought a pair of these to be setup as a RAID1 for a new PC build.
The drive(s) functioned as both the OS drive and torrent drive for the first 2 years of service.
They were essentially in use 20+ hours a day until that job was shifted to a 1TB RAID1 I added to the tower later on.

Cons: So slow, I got a 1 TB WD Blue 7200 RPM and 64 cache for only just a few bucks mire

2 out of 5 eggs Failed.... after 6 MONTHS??!??

Pros: It was a good boot drive... while it LASTED.

Cons: I write this review after i find the drive failed me this morning, this was a brand new build and the drive only lasted 6 months being in the machine as my boot drive. this is HIGHLY uncharismatic of WD drives as ive had WD drives last me YEARS as a boot drive in other builds.

Dosnt show in BiOS, dosnt show on disk manager, dosnt even spin up as far as i can tell. Its not a power consumption issue either.

im lucky to have had a 1tb as extra storage to put the OS on to get my machine running again to write this review, but the fact that i have to re-install over 200 GIGABYTES OF SOFTWARE AND GAMES IS A WASTE OF MY SATURDAY as Steam and Origin DO NOT simply recognize already installed games and software on other drives!

i would love to have my drive replaced or my money back so i can replace it and have my machine configured how i originally intended it, but given its now July and i ordered the drive in January of 2015, i wouldnt be surprised if i was told flat out "no". so whatever.

Bottom Line: i loved WD... but this is the first black eye ive gotten from them. ironically the drive that i had to fall back on is a 2.5" WD drive....
but its not like i had much of another option.

1 out of 5 eggs underwhelming

    Pros: Not noisy at all.

Cons: it is slow, very slow, I don't recommed it for gaming, specially simulation games. it takes 4 mins to boot after just 2 weeks of format and installing FSX with its addons. So I'm gathering some coins to buy an SSD.

Bottom Line: just for rarely PC use, iternet, music, movies...

3 out of 5 eggs Underwhelming

    Pros: It Works
    Price

    Cons: It's Slow

Bottom Line: For an "average" performance HDD, I find the performance lacking. I wasn't expecting Velociraptor performance, to be sure... but I at least expected it to beat the 5200 rpm Seagate drive I had in my laptop.

I'll always buy WD, but I won't be buying Blue drives again. If I wanted mediocre performance, I'd have bought Green.
