    Pretty good but fair QC

I have bought several of the AAKX drives in various sizes. All are a speed improvement over previous AAKS drives. HDTune4.6 Pro reports of MAX MB/s 125-ish and MIN MB/s 65-ish. Access times sub 13ms. This is the standard Benchmark reports. ... Read more

    Hard Drives or paper wieghts?

One of the five would not show up in the bios, Another worked long enough to install Windows 7 then began to give errors and died. The third is still questionalble with intermittent errors. (Tried in different machines) Read more

1 out of 5 eggs Marketplace Problems

    Pros: None

Cons: Do not order from Stor-rite, drives were re-sealed in anti-static bags not the original western digital packaging. If you have to cut it off, it's not western digital. Western digital have tears you can open the packaging with. All 4 drives are slow , defective and probably used.

Bottom Line: I am tired of Newegg using Marketplace sellers, but that's there problem when they tank they may have some common sense because there's no quality control.

5 out of 5 eggs Rock of Gibraltar

Pros: Well, if you need storage space on the cheap that's reliable, probably would go with a Western Digital hard drive.

Cons: For $3 more, you could double your hard drive capacity to a 1TB WD Blue hard drive. I don't know why this one exists at this point. Bad shopping on my part though not looking around further and just buying the cheapest WD Blue I could find.

Bottom Line: Bought this for my brother because he wanted a cheap computer. That being said, once I built a computer with an SSD, I can never go back to hard drives as my boot drive. Just too slow.

5 out of 5 eggs Very Reliable

Pros: Reliable. I've had mine for over two years and I've never had any issues with it. It also has very reasonable performance.

Cons: 1TB drive has much more value (Price per gigabyte) than when I bought this 500GB drive in 2012, so I would only recommend the 1TB version of this drive.

Bottom Line: I am very pleased with the reliability this drive has given me for 2 years, I've never had any problems with it, and hopefully it will last me another 3 or so years.

4 out of 5 eggs WD- Great!

Pros: No problems at all. Great, reliable, always go for WD.

Cons: Only reason I am giving a 4 star is based off the speed (16mb cache) - newer ones (32mb cache) with 1TB are almost the same price.

Bottom Line: No complaints - used to replace a harddrive- does the job well.

3 out of 5 eggs Good but, ...

Pros: Nice drive. I have 5 of them. While I like WD drives, 1 of the 5 died just after the 2 year warranty ran out.

Cons: 1 of 5 drives died just after 2 years.

3 out of 5 eggs Lasted over 3 years

Pros: Worked well for many years. I have had extremely good results from buying WD drives over the past decade.

Cons: SMART monitoring revealed early signs of failure a few weeks ago.

Bottom Line: I bought this in the summer of 2011 to replace a smaller slower SATA drive that I used in an older computer. I was very happy with the price vs. performance of this drive, and never had any negative issues at all until recently. When the SMART monitor started detecting problems I made some rudimentary attempts to fix the issues. The drive still "worked," but the issues could not be corrected, and I decided "better safe than sorry" and retired the drive. I did not lose any data, and backed all my files up to another machine and replaced it with a WD10EZEX 1TB drive. (The other drive I was using in the machine, a WD5000AAKS, is older and still works fine.)

5 out of 5 eggs WD blue 500gb

Pros: Installed it in the PC, plugged in the SATA and power, booted up the computer, went into disk management and formatted the drive and so far it runs fine without issue or excessive noise.
Currently installed as a secondary drive containing games and movies and swap file.

    Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggs Failure in less than a year

Pros: Drive worked fine for ~10 months.

Cons: Drive failed in less than a year. Computer was making a clicking noise for a little while. Suddenly the drive stopped being detected by SATA (not even in CMOS) and here I am.

Going to attempt to reach WD to see about warranty support.
