5 out of 5 eggs So far, so good

Pros: It's a functional SATA drive with a decent cache.
Performance is average, about 130mb/s sustained read on the 6g/s connectors on my board. Access times were around 17ms.
Good price.

Cons: It's a hard disk.

Bottom Line: I'll return to this review in the future and share what I can of it's reliability, but I doubt there will be problems.
If you're considering this drive, you might as well get it.

4 out of 5 eggs Voting? Let you know in a year or so

Pros: Reliable, so far: my previous drive, Western Digital WD Blue WD2500AAKX 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5", is 2.5 yrs old and runs perfectly. NewEgg apparently still carries it because the link from my 2011 email confirm pulls it up, @ $5 less. Don't what the diff is except for model #. I'm using 2 5000AAKX in a hot swap, finally doing the safe-deposit routine, become adult after 25 yrs of computer use: DUH!

Cons: None yet. I hope that I don't have to edit this...

5 out of 5 eggs WDC500AAKX Hard Drive

Pros: I love Western Digital. I have never had one fail yet since i worked on computers for 14 years. I sure hope Western Digital Keeps up what they are doing producing a nice efficient hard drive, That runs fast. runs cool. And never has problems.

Cons: I have nothing to say for this.

Bottom Line: But. Please beware of Hitachi's They are Western Digital Now but they don't work to great. And Seagate. They have went down hill since maxtor was in place. And Samsung is bad. I would stick with Western Digital. Thanks Newegg! Again for the great product as always!!! Nice package to!

1 out of 5 eggs FRUSTRATED!!!

Pros: Newegg shipping is fast! As usual.

Cons: The initial unit received was not detected by my mobo's BIOS (MSI A78m-E35) and was accompanied by a repetitive clicking sound (the actuator arm flailing about). This situation was made more to my disliking by the fact that I had to pull my CPUs heatsink/fan assembly in order to extract the drive. OK, that's cool. It happens. Newegg RMA to the rescue. Received the replacement drive and...DOA. The first HDDs behavior is replicated with stunning similarity. Come on now! Two in a row!? Fine. Newegg RMA for a refund and I'm going with another manufacturer. Ordered a Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 on Monday (4/7) and it was delivered Tuesday morning (Go Newegg!). I mounted the unit in the top portion of the chassis drive cage this time so it could clear the heatsink/fan if it needed to be extracted at some point. Alright, system power on, slow BIOS POST... hmm, drive not detected. I try a different SATA cable... nope. I try another SATA port that detects my DVD burner... nope. While the machine is on I lean in closer and I can hear the drive emitting a repetitive buzzing sound. You have got to be s*itting me! Third time...unlucky!!? Newegg RMA for a replacement. I'm a masochist that way. Others may have had better luck with WD, but I have become ever more worrisome with them. In the past, I've had two WDs experience sudden death on two separate occasions and I lost some data during one of the events due to my lack of diligence in maintaining a backup. I gotta tell ya, though... Seagate ain't exactly warming the cockles of my heart, just yet. Cross your fingers and say a prayer for me 'cause if drive #4 don't work... I think I'll be making for the deep end... in a hand-basket... on the red-eye... express ticket... one way.

Bottom Line: Can I just have a drive that works?
