    Pretty good but fair QC

I have bought several of the AAKX drives in various sizes. All are a speed improvement over previous AAKS drives. HDTune4.6 Pro reports of MAX MB/s 125-ish and MIN MB/s 65-ish. Access times sub 13ms. This is the standard Benchmark reports. ... Read more

5 out of 5 eggs Hard Drive

Pros: Price is low. Needed it for a first time build and as of now I have no need for 1TB yet, considering a second to run in raid.

    Cons: none

2 out of 5 eggs good for 2 years

    Pros: Fast
    stable

Cons: Lasted a month after the 2 year warrenty ran out and just started to die. Unusable as it will frequently freeze my computer.

Bottom Line: I cant recommend anything that doesnt last 3-4 years so this is a no go.

5 out of 5 eggs Still works great

Pros: Just for the record. This HD came in the hp desk top I bought in 2009 and it still operates as new. I bought the Blue 1 Tb 64 mb cache thinking maybe it was time to upgrade , loaded up the OS W7 and ran Windows performance index and the score actually dropped one whole point. The 1 Tb was noticeably slower, so idk.

    Cons: It's not an SSD

Bottom Line: This 500 mb WD Blue is five years old and I noticed that it feels slightly heavier than the (new) WD Blue 1 Tb , that actually seems slower. Windows index went from 6.9 to 5.9 with the old WD 500 scoring 6.9. Sounds to me like the newer HDD's are ****. I would buy these WD Blue 500 HDD's, but will the new one be as good as the old one?

3 out of 5 eggs You get what you pay for

Pros: - Good Price at the time on the hard drive.
    - While the drive lasted, it ran perfectly fine.
-Average to slightly above average read/write/access times

Cons: -Died exactly 3 days after warranty ended; total time in operating ~1 year 6 months. Daily usage after install.
    -Reliability

Bottom Line: Seems no matter whom the manufacturer, these drives tend to fail often and rather suddenly. This drive was purchased on 9/17/2012 and not used outside of initial install/test for about 6 months. After replacing another failed seagate it operated until 9/21/2014. Failed exactly 3 days outside of it's 2 year warranty. This unit had fans attached the hard drive (HD cooler), and it was monitored the temperatures; the HD never exceeded 27 celcius (which is a decent temperature for a full time HD). I find it shameful that the drive failed so soon after the limited warranty was up, but I guess you get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 eggs Two failed drives in a row

Pros: When they work they do what they are supposed to and are inexpensive....

Cons: First drive failed within warranty, after about 2 years, was rma'd smoothly with advance exchange. Second drive failed after 3 months, 261 hours. This was a recertified drive....

Unfortunately I have had 4 drive failures, or 100% of WD drives, I purchased in the last 4 year fails! Two were WD Blacks, and this documents the other two....This is terrible reliability! The only good thing is the two WD Black replacements still function.....

Bottom Line: SMART showed it was fine, but windows could not access, and WD diagnostics immediately failed drive. HDtune scan showed most sectors are bad..This replacement the web interface will not allow advance exchange and was a "Recertified" unit.
So now, send it back, wait till they send out another recertified in a couple weeks...

I have had better reliability with S*gate, great luck with Hit*hi (of old), perfect record with Sam*g....but WD is going on my bad list...data is too important.
