5 out of 5 eggs
Probably one of the best network switches I have worked with. Setup was easy, just plug it in, plugin all your network devices along with your internet connection, and your on in seconds. It's that easy. All computers with GB LAN cards were able to connect at the rated speeds and the transfers were very fast. I also like the metal casing. TRENDnet kept their word on the switch being green. I took a power reading of it which was just 1 Watt. Most of my other routers and switches use between 5 and 11 Watts. Great product, highly recommended.

First gigabit device

4 out of 5 eggs
My fast ethernet home network is getting long in the tooth. This is my first fast ethernet switch. It seems to be nice, quiet, and cool to the touch. It draws about 1 watt. My 2 gigabit ethernet devices register correctly (green light) and other non-gigabit devices register orange / amber.

5 out of 5 eggs Very reliable, easy setup. Presumably saves power.

Pros: Compact, reliable, fast, efficient, easy setup. No complains really. I work for a major networking company. This is solid stuff.

Cons: None really, could always use more ports I guess.

Bottom Line: A no brainer, particularly if you get a deal on it. I stream media with it constantly.

5 out of 5 eggs 720+Mb/s file transfers

Pros: FAST!

Cons: none yet, will update if it fails or starts acting up

Bottom Line: I am presently backing up video files from my desktop to my file server over the network, and seeing 720Mb/s sustained transfer speeds, after about 15 minutes. The speeds climbed slowly, from about 60MB/s initially to 90MB/s=720Mb/s, where they have peaked.

The bottleneck is not the source, a WD black hard drive, and it is not the write speed to the destination, which is a RAID5 array of WD black drives. It could be the Cat5 ethernet cables or the onboard "Gigabit" Realtek ethernet controller on the desktop. I don't do such large network file transfers often enough to really care about why I see "only" about 70% of actual Gigabit transfer speeds so I'm just not bothering to pin down the bottleneck.

There is no reason to assume it's this switch but even if it is, 720Mb/s is plenty for any streaming video, or for that matter any application of consumer class hardware. If you needed higher performance than this, you would already know it and not even be shopping in this category, consumer network hardware! So if you ARE considering buying this, just buy it already, you won't regret it!

5 out of 5 eggs TRENDnet Gigabit Switch

Pros: I geeked out the mancave, wanted to hardwire my video game systems, smart tv and blue ray player. They share the net traffic with no drops. Great price.

Cons: None

3 out of 5 eggs Metal case is a plus

Pros: Sturdy metal construction and ports located on the back. Why manufacturers continue to place ports on the front in small, non-rack mount network devices is a mystery.

I got three years out of a $30 switch so I'd say it was a value.

Cons: Died after three years. A call to customer support put me in contact with a technician who thought he knew all there was to know about switches. Unfortunately, his brilliant solution was little more than cycling the power on and off a half dozen times. Technician also claimed the unit had a three-year warranty when the box, which I kept, said five. He didn't believe me so I had to send him a picture of the box. It's always an uplifting experience to have a technician from India doubting my integrity--and all over a lousy $30 switch. He reluctantly acknowledged it was a five year warranty after it sent him a picture but seemed almost gleeful when he informed me it was at my own cost to ship the defective one back. I didn't bother.

Bottom Line: An overall "good" product that I may buy again. I just hope I don't have to deal with their lousy tech support center in India.

Manufacturer Responses:

Hello, We apologize for the experience you had with our support services. Some of the initial release versions did carry a 5 year limited warranty. We will take measures to ensure our support agents are better able to assist in these matters in the future. Regards, Adrian TRENDnet Support http://www.trendnet.com/support

5 out of 5 eggs Works great!

Pros: 1. Easy to see lights on the front to see if internet is being accessed
2. Lights are not too bright
3. Heavy and feels solid but obviously this is personal and does not affect function but does help it stay in one spot
4. Able to easily stream files from my NAS without issues

Cons: None

Bottom Line: Have not tested power consumption so cannot comment on that.

5 out of 5 eggs Great Little Switch

Pros: This thing simply just works. I have all my living room devices hooked up to it (Xbone, PS4, Desktop, TV) and have not had to touch it, which is a great thing.

Cons: None so far

Bottom Line: If your looking for something fast and simple, this is it
