    Love it

Probably one of the best network switches I have worked with. Setup was easy, just plug it in, plugin all your network devices along with your internet connection, and your on in seconds. It's that easy. All computers with GB LAN cards were ... Read more

Instantly create a Gigabit network with TRENDnet's TEG-S80G and instantly start saving money on operating costs.

The TEG-S80G features 8 ports for you to connect different devices to, however, TRENDnet distinguishes itself by being energy-conscious. When ports are empty, the switch will provide less power to those ports. The same is true when connected devices are powered off. Finally, the TEG-S80G also scales power depending on cable-length.

If you're looking for a fast solution to Gigabit networks and also want to save money, then there is no substitute for the TRENDnet TEG-S80G switch. Own it today!

5 out of 5 eggs Good, simple network appliance

    Pros: - Small form factor
    - Lights not overly bright
    - Doesn't seem to generate any heat at all

Cons: -Awkward to wall mount, because the ports aren't labeled on the top and bottom, so depending on how you mount it, it may be difficult to see which port you're working with.

Bottom Line: Not much to say here. Works, seems to do its job well. Looks like a total of 2gbit of throughput across the switch. Tested with 4K/9K frames and it worked just fine.

    5 out of 5 eggs

    Pros: Cheap full gig switch.
Running with no issues for ~2 years.

Cons: Wish it was managed too.
Some people have complained about it failing, probably has cheapo capacitors that fail.

1 out of 5 eggs TEG=-S80g Not so good

Pros: When it worked, it worked great.

Cons: Upgraded my network recently and decided to move the switch to a new location. When I plugged it in after moving it, the unit was dead. I thought it might be the power strip so I plugged it in directly to the wall. Still no power. I then read the reviews on Newegg and saw I had lots of company. I expected more from Trendnet.

1 out of 5 eggs Please return to the old design with speed indication and mounting holes

Pros: great switches, if you can find the older design with mounting holes and leds that indicate the 10/100/1000 connection speed.

Cons: they changed the design, removing the mounting holes and the speed indicating leds AND KEPT THE SAME MODEL NUMBER!

Bottom Line: I have deployed just under 500 of these (the older design) in residential apartments and condos. When the time came for the next building after construction was completed, I immediately went and purchased another 155 of these thinking they were the same model (because the model number was in fact the same). Unfortunately, we had to eat the shipping cost and send them all back. I was able to source enough older ones through misc vendors to get this job done, but the next project will force us into another product. It's too bad companies feel the need to change the products in this manner. I'd be willing to pay a little more if it's a matter of manufacturing cost, rather than lose the wall mounting and speed indication capability. Silliness...

5 out of 5 eggs Great switch...

Pros: This review is for TRENDnet TEG-S80G Unmanaged 8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch.
Works as it should, large file transfer is fast around 125 MB/s transfer rate. The metal housing doesn't get hot, instead it's lukewarm to touch. I've got this switch for half price at Newegg, well worth the money.

    Cons: None so far...

Bottom Line: The Gigabit transfer rate does eclipse hard disk drives' read/write speed. I've tested this switch with two Windows 7 PCs with SATA 3 SSD drives to get the 125 MBs transfer rate, simple copy/paste of a large file. With FTP server/client, the transfer rate would probably be marginally better. With hard disk drives the transfer rate drops to 70-90 MB/s. The drop is related to the hard drive and not to the switch...

5 out of 5 eggs Still going strong 3+ years later.

Pros: I bought this switch while setting up my home network because it was cheap, but I was never expecting to get so much use out of it. I get great throughput and it doesn't bat an eye doing media streaming and other things with an insane amount of packets. I've got active devices on every port and it handles it all beautifully. I now have both my minecraft servers running through it and the performance is great. Very little power use too. An amazing buy.

    Cons: none at all

5 out of 5 eggs great product and service

Pros: uses small amount of wattage number depend on how ports are active and other factors, fast gigabit Ethernet, good looking product

I own 2 of these 8port switches and 2 of the 5port versions, I RMA'd one after just under 3 years of use...the customer service was great and process was painless!!!

Cons: none that I can think of

5 out of 5 eggs TRENDnet

Pros: TRENDnet makes great switches, that's all there is to it.
I've bought probably around 100 of their metal switches, all gigabit, all metal, 5-8 port types. None have had any problems at all, all run cool, run silent, and run fast.
    Price

    Cons: None

Bottom Line: I haven't really got any other TRENDnet (except 1 pcie wireless receiver (which also works great for a year) devices but they're my go to for switches for any company I'm working for.. for the past 2 years I haven't got any other switches
TRENDnet almost entirely holds the cheapest switches which have out performed linksys, netgear, dlink etc switches.. and the metal trendnet cases are great.
