2 out of 5 eggs Looks good and worked -- only for a while

    Pros: Nice looking, feels sturdy

Cons: Shiny exterior gets smudgy, hard to put together when drive is installed, speed display is nt very useful

Bottom Line: This looked like a good desk-based enclosure for a SSD backup drive. In retrospect, this was not the best choice. While the unit looks and feels nice, the glossy finish requires constant cleaning, the lack of rubber/grippy feet means that every time I move the laptop around, the enclosure gets dragged around. The supplied cable is bulky and unwieldy. At more than twice the costs of a portable enclosure for no real extra benefit.

Finally, the unit stopped working after a year of use, I kept getting random disconnects of the mounted drive, requiring constant re-plugging of the cable and no assurance that a backup job would finish correctly.

2 out of 5 eggs Not so great

Pros: Looks great, works great,(to a point, see Cons), solid, cool and quiet, display very helpful. I wish more manufacturers would build products as nice as this.

Cons: Won't work with a 3TB drive (Seagate), which was my main reason for buying this case. It was going to be a backup for my NAS. Will work with lower capacity drives.

Bottom Line: Too bad that the maximun drive capacity is not listed in the specifications. If it was, I would have bought something else.

5 out of 5 eggs Excellent!

Pros: Superb build quality! USB 3.0 support. Supports 3TB drives with firmware update from manufacturers web site.

Cons: Not really a con, but the LCD display is a bit of a gimmick. Completely subjective of course.

Bottom Line: I've owned 8 different enclosures from 6 different manufacturers and this is far and away my favorite. The fit and finish of this product are better than any I've owned before. It's got good thick metal, and with the stand is very stable sitting on my desk. The stand hold the enclosure in place with rubber and does a great job of isolating vibrations. Its very quiet.

When it first arrived, I installed a 2TB drive and copied 1.6TB of data overnight. Had no issues with stability. This same drive was never stable in its previous Silverstone enclosure. All in all, this enclosure is well worth it's price tag.

5 out of 5 eggs Probably best looking on NewEgg

Pros: - Great look and feel. The sides are actually a glossy black painted brushed aluminum, so it hides fingerprints and light wear with its texture better than straight-up smooth gloss. When you load a hard drive in it, it feels like a solid block of metal. No rattling noises. Fantastic.
    - Has stood up to HUGE file size transfers without crashing/ejecting itself. Transferred 91GB worth of HD video and it didn't break a sweat. My old Rosewill would crash and have to be reset at anything over 3 to 4 GB.
    - Speeds seem great. I don't have USB 3.0 yet, (wanted a futureproof enclosure,) but my 2.0 speeds seem perfectly average. 25~45 MB/s depending on what else my system is doing. I care more for the dependability than speed.
    - The transfer speed indicator screen IS actually handy. I thought it would be gimmicky, but it's cool to see ACTUAL transfer speed at that second instead of an average by the OS. It's also not distractingly bright.
    - Stand is 100% metal with grippy vibration damping pa

Cons: - Transfer speed display can't be read from an above angle. The number readout will just turn into "888" unless seen from generally straight-on. At least the numbers stay a nice crisp red against black at all angles, that way they at least blend in with the case better.
    - Can't turn the display off, (unless you unplug it -- you can do that when you open the case up.) It's also permanently red, which some people may not like. This isn't really a problem for me, though. Black+Red is my system color scheme anyway.
    - The stand, though built SURPRISINGLY well from metal, has extremely sharp corners! Watch out with that thing, it can scratch something real easily. The enclosure itself IS sharp at the corners, but not harmfully so.
    - Would like to have seen some rubber on the inside of the case, at least for the hard drive mount. But it's still really solid without it.

Bottom Line: Took a gamble on this one! Sometimes you just gotta buy something on NewEgg that hasn't been reviewed before. I was sick of getting cheaper $20~$25 enclosures that looked awful and eventually cause problems. Enough was enough and it was time to try one in the $50 range. So far, really glad I did! I keep this one on my desk as a permanent fixture now, it just looks so nice! Can't wait to get a USB 3.0 pci-e card soon to get the most out of this thing.

Also, I like that this enclosure uses a standard round-style power plug, instead of one with a bunch of tiny pins like an S-Video jack or something. Those always break over time. This should last me MUCH longer, though.

I highly recommend this! As far as hard drive enclosures go, this is probably one of the most stylish AND premium feeling ones out there. Don't hesitate to pick one up yourself.

    - I wouldn't entirely recommend this for people who need to swap out the drive inside often. Screws are involved to open/install.
