    5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap and it works. It has a second USB plug for power.

Cons: Some might have an issue with the fact that it has a second plug for power, but I don't. I like my drive to get all the power it needs.

Bottom Line: I'm using this to house a 500GB hard drive, and it hasn't had any issues. Transfers are fast and it has been very reliable so far. The second USB plug makes sure the drive gets power it needs, which is especially useful when the drive is under extended periods of intense use.

5 out of 5 eggs I really like it

Pros: Tool less design, snaps open and shut with the press of a button.
    Sleek design looks nice.
It works. (For this price that's a BIG plus)

Cons: Plastic on back cover is a bit thinner than I would like.
Has an unusual thin plastic sheet that sits under drive to insulate it from metal frame of case.
    Doesn't bake cookies?

Bottom Line: For the price this is an excellent option for anyone that needs to frequently swap out drives from an external case.

5 out of 5 eggs Inexpensive Effective External Drive Casing

Pros: Works very well as advertised. Consists of a two pronged USB cable, one for data/power and the other for additional power (if needed). Most times you do not need to insert the power portion in since more SSDs and newer generation harddrives will have more than adequate power to function. Sturdy casing.

Cons: Not necessarily cons: Item supports up to a max of 500GB drive capacity only. USB 2.0 transfer speeds may seem slow sometimes.

For the price paid ($7), these are acceptable compromises.

Bottom Line: Someone indictaed the PCB falls out when opened. This is actually not a con for most. It allows some flexibility when inserting/removing the hard drive without damaging any parts. My concern lies more with the plastic sheeting in the case which tends to trap quite a bit of heat. however. I simply leave the casing opened when using it to avoid excessive heat buildup.

I have done many different transfers/imaging (via USB) to date: HD to SSD, SSD to HD, SSD to SSD, and they worked perfectly every time.

I consider this a GREAT buy overall!

1 out of 5 eggs Defective Product

    Pros: None

Cons: This product does a very strange thing when I plug it in.
Even when I have no HDD in the slot, even when I have both USBs plugged in, or just one, no matter what computer I plug it into, it shuts the USB port system down, including other USB devices until I unplug it.

I would send this back for a refund, but the shipping cost more than the item itself.

Bottom Line: I originally purchased this item because it was Iron Egg approved, but almost immediately after I purchased it, the Iron Egg approved seal went away.
    What is this a joke?

I can make a video of this defect if you need it.

4 out of 5 eggs Cheap casing

Pros: Price - got it on sale

    Metal panels

Speed - Hits the real world limit for USB2. On my laptop (Thinkpad X220) I get 28-32MB/s over USB2, and on my desktop I get 35MB/s when it's hooked to the front USB3 ports (motherboard is an MSI P67A-G45). This is with a 500GB Seagate 7200.4 and both USB cables plugged in.

Cons: Construction - First, the enclosure comes with an internal strip, in case you want to screw the drive in. The one in the case I received was warped, so getting the drive in was tough. Also, the board containing the USB and SATA ports isn't really secured to the case, so when I put the cover back on, the board popped out which knocked the USB port out of alignment.

Trying to get the case back open was a pain, as at that point, the little button to open it had jammed. The only way to get it back open was to go at it with a flathead screwdriver from a precision screwdriver set.

Bottom Line: Overall, not bad. Some construction issues, but considering the sticker price I wasn't expecting miracles. As long as you're not planning on using it as a hotswap dock it should be alright.

5 out of 5 eggs It;s Nice, Easy to setup

Pros: USB port powered, no need for an addition power supply

Mostly tool-less, only need the included screw driver to secure drive to middle frame.

Latch button on other end release the top and bottom aluminum covers,.

    Thin and easy to carry,

Cons: The middle plastic frame is looks cheap.

5 out of 5 eggs Insten 1042834 Aluminum 2.5" USB 2.0 SATA External Enclosure

Pros: Looks just like the picture. No tools required unless you want to screw the drive to the plastic frame, it fits snug enough so that is not really necessary. Took the drive out of my Mac laptop put it in the enclosure, plugged it in to my Mac mini with my regular USB mini plug that I use for my camera and the Mac saw it as just another drive just like it's supposed to, how cool. Don't know how long it will last but at this point I don't care, I got the files off of my dead laptop for not very much money.

    Cons: none

Bottom Line: The frame that the hard drive sits in is plastic so it is not 100% aluminum, but it works well and looks really nice. It is not very much bigger than the drive itself.
