5 out of 5 eggs ...nothin' but net

    Pros: Price. Features. Works.

    Cons: None.

Bottom Line: Paired with a Vantec MRK-311S6 hot swap bay to give me 2½ capability in the Vantec's bare 3½ slide-in bay.

The box AMS box itself is a front loader with lever, so exchanging 2½ drives is as easy as it is with the hot swap bay itself.

Box is pass-through for SATA, so should support SATA III (I didn't perform verification testing though).

This is a no-brainer hot swap module combo if you have to occasionally do drive maintenance for other machines (and your mainboard BIOS supports hot swap options on its SATA ports), such as malware scans.

I was surprised to see that the W7 Autoplay popup had added "Use this drive as a backup device" as an additional option. All those years, and I don't recall seeing that particular option lol.

    Recommend.

5 out of 5 eggs AMS DS-111SSBK 2.5" SATA Removable Rack

Pros: Shaped and sized as a hard drive. Has side mounting holes as a floppy drive. Front load, so can be mounted permanently in a floppy drive bay. Also. If you have thin laptop drive then it fits too, although not as ideal as thick laptop drive.

Cons: Does not have holes as a hard drive. Bottom holes do not have thread. But it is plastic. So you can try...

Bottom Line: This adapter shaped and sized as a hard drive or floppy drive. Although it only has side mounting holes as a floppy drive, not as a hard drive. And you'll need small screws to mount it inside the chassis, same as floppy drive screws or CD drive screws. Google for pictures DS-111SSBK. I purchased this adapter primarily to use 2.5" drives (HDD and SSD) inside another adapter - Rosewill RX-C525. So I can use both 3,5" drives and 2.5" drives in all home computers and do not need to open chassis. Drive fits nicely in the adapter - not loose, may bee a bit tight. Two adapters fit each other perfectly. I do not have SATA III, so I can't say anything about maximum speed. I've got ~170-180 MBps with SSD - same as connected directly to MoBo. Actually, it does not bother me too much. I did not mount it. It goes in and out when needed. So I am happy :)

Not clear description of mounting holes and where exactly this adapter can be mounted. Needs better description.

2 out of 5 eggs Major flaws

    Pros: Seems solid. Decent price.

Cons: The mounting hole pattern does not match normal desktop drives. The rear holes line up but the middle and front holes are offset. Who measured this? Makes it very difficult to use in places where you need a desktop drive but want to use a latop/SSD drive.

Also, the mounting holes are for M3 screws that laptop drives use, not 6-32 that desktop drives use. So you can't use your normal hard drives screws. Especially bad for rack-mounting where the drive sleds may use custom or hard to find screws.
