5 out of 5 eggs Well constructed and very easy to install

Pros: I think this is an excellent product, with quality construction. I like the convenience of being able to swap out drives in seconds.

Cons: In tight spaces, the flow of air around the HDD might be restricted slightly more than without the rack. I think there's a fan option available for this device, but I haven't been able to find it at the company's website or at Newegg.

Bottom Line: I would highly recommend this product to anyone. And I would definitely buy again. It gets 5 eggs from me, and I'm tough to please!

5 out of 5 eggs Excellent for test system build

Pros: This review is for the AMS DS-116TH - Item Number:N82E16817999025.
Bought one of these as I was building a test system that did not have any internal disks and that would be used to boot different operating systems and different disks. I already had a 2.5" trayless dock and wanted one for 3.5" drives as well. The AMS dock was perfect. It fit nice and snug (as it should) in a 5.25 bay and was plug and play. bare drives fit nicely and easily into the dock with no aligning issues or ejecting issues. Will be looking to buy another one if these if not more.

    Cons: None so far.

5 out of 5 eggs Very Impressed

Pros: I have purchased two of these AMS DS116TL's in the part month. They fell solid, are well-built, and well-designed.. They simply work as advertised ... which is a very good thing. I find them to be useful.

Cons: I honestly cannot think of any ... for $24 it's hard to find anything this useful

Bottom Line: You can even boot from drives inserted into these AMS trays ... a bit of a surprise for me ... but yet very useful.

5 out of 5 eggs These are Awesome

Pros: Just like installing a CD-ROM unit - easy.

Solid build, all the way through.

Can choose to lock the drive bay, or not too...

Bought 3 of these, and they all work perfectly.

3.5" hot swap capability confirmed on 3 different systems.

Cons: Have to be careful when "hiding" cables in the empty 5.25" bays above and below these. Such cables tend to protrude into the open design and interfere with drive insertion. Really no big deal once you figure out how to manage your cables in light it.

Bottom Line: Bought 3 of these, and so far have used them for:

1: Scan a system drive from another machine for viruses.

2: Backup important data to a drive that only gets plugged in for backup/restore functions.

3: Add an extra drive to a machine that ran out of internal bays.

4: Drop 60 gigs of work onto a friends drive while we had coffee.

These are sweet units. When you swap drives you do not feel like you are going to break anything - ever.

I believe that these are top of the line units. Makes your PC into an easy to use, powerhouse tech tool.

5 out of 5 eggs Works exactly as expected

Pros: - Easy, easy install, even for me
    - Rigid construction, good build quality
    - Has a power plug in back for a small fan, if you're inclined to get one separately
    - Flush fit with case, nothing sticks out

Cons: - Costs a few more bucks than other removable drive bays
    - Having installed just a couple days ago, no way to assess long-term durability

Bottom Line: I got this because it looked solid and simple to install, and it is. No frills or extra wiring to deal with. I don't plan on removing the drive that often, so I'm not sure how it will stand up over time, but it seemed pretty well made out of the box. No mention in the instructions if it's hot swappable- doesn't matter for my purposes.

    5 out of 5 eggs

    Pros: See below.

    Cons: Absolutely none.

Bottom Line: I received the following email and for whatever reason the Answer Question button does not work for me. I would like to answer the question.
To help make a friendly place to shop, we enable shoppers to ask our customers questions about the products they bought - because sometimes input from a fellow customer is the most helpful.

A shopper is looking for an answer from a fellow customer about AMS DS-116TL 3.5" Tray-less SATA Removable Rack for HDD.

Since you bought this on October 25, 2013, we thought you might be able to help.

A shopper asked: Does this sit flush with front of case when installed in the 5.25 slot? Like in a Lian Li case that has the removable front perforated pieces in front of each 5.25 slot......will this fit in and sit flush with front or will it stick out a bit as if you could read the VENUS logo on top? Hope that is understandable.
The MS DS-116TL 3.5" Tray-less SATA Removable Rack for HDD does sit flush with the front of the case when installed in the 5.25 slot. It does not stick out.

I have a generic case ATX case with four 5.25 bays, three of the bays with the MS DS-116TL. It looks good, works well, I'm a happy camper.

You will need to consider if your power supply or system board will prevent the tray being fully recessed into any of the bays in your case.
Answers to some other questions currently posted:
A shopper asked: Is there any type of vibration isolation or dampening device in this assembly? It looks like the load path is direct contact of the HDD with the solid guide rails that get [censored by NewEgg] s-c-r-e-w-e-d from the cage in the computer case....not really any type of cushioning. So is there anyting to hold the HDD in place besides interference? Sep 07,2014

The HDD is very snugly held when the tray door is shut. In 11 months with three trays I've had no vibration, or other problems, at all.
A shopper asked: Is the front and rear pieces that are black colored made of plastic? or what? then is the front door piece plastic as well or someting aluminum? I assume the side rails arae aluminum? Sep 07,2014

The side rails are aluminum, the door is brushed black aluminum. The other black parts are plastic, good heavy-duty plastic. This is not a flimsy tray.
I am very happy with this product.

    5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Doesn't require a tray/caddy for each hard drive since the bare hard drive slides in and is locked in place into the unit .

    Cons: none so far

Bottom Line: long term realiability is hard to determine since I don't believe most hard drives were designed to have the connections hooked and unhooked more then a few times after they are installed. The HD connector is going to be the critical point which will have wear and tear on it eventually if HD is removed alot. I am satisfied with this item so far.

5 out of 5 eggs Just what I needed

Pros: Easy install, decent build quality, works great, reasonably priced

    Cons: None

Bottom Line: I use this with some extra HD I had lying around for creating backup volumes that I store off-site in case some catastrophic event takes out my perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggs fits my needs

Pros: Easy to install. Sturdy. Drive slides in and back out smoothly but precise.

Cons: Key is sort of generic and I'm sure the door could be ripped off easily if someone wanted it open bad enough.

Bottom Line: I didn't buy this device to secure data. I use it to test, clone and erase hard drives and didn't want a dock on my desk with yet more cabling.
