Very Decent 3TB USB 3.0 Drive

Write Speed 122MB/s with TeraCopy, Read 105 MB/s TeraCopy. (Part of the difference was because of the hard-drive it was coping to. Crystal Disk Mark: Read 130.0 MB/s, Write 128.0 MB/s It out preforms both of my internal SATA drives. Crystal ... Read more

4 out of 5 eggs The hottest ever

    Pros: Definitely large, and quiet.

Cons: The hottest drive I have ever owned. Luckily I only use it for backup. After about an hour on it runs up to 56 degrees Celsius, it has gotten to 64 degrees. I make every effort to not have it on long. I have several internal and external drives and this is by far the hottest. As heat is the enemy, I cant see this lasting too long, I suppose time will tell.

    2 out of 5 eggs Auto-Disconnects

Pros: Great looking and great working. Quiet and fast.

Cons: In Mac OS X Lion, the drive runs and eventually disconnects itself. Even if the system is set to keep hard drives awake. This is the only drive that has this issue for me. It is a pain.

    5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 7200rpm 7K3000, same as the internal one that costs $120 more. Bought one so I could rip out the drive and use it as internal.

    Cons: None for now…

Bottom Line: Buy these while you still can. Don't know how much longer they will still be in stock.

4 out of 5 eggs Great Drive

Pros: Lots of space and USB 3 if you need it, very quiet drive.

Cons: Do not use the included USB 3 cable in a USB 2 port, it will be unreliable, use a standard USB 2.0 cable and you no longer have connectivity problems that some users experience.

Bottom Line: All in all this is a great solution for storing media files and for backup, you just have to learn how to use it right, I think Hitachi should include a USB 2.0 cable also.

The Cloud solution offered by Hitachi are too slow for any good use, it is a great deal for what you get but it is just not fast enough to be useful.

1 out of 5 eggs Leave this one alone.

Pros: The idea of the USB 3.0 & 3 TB for the price...

    Cons: Unreliable

Bottom Line: Bought 2 of these to have a X2 system backup.
Both did NOT work with the USB 3.0 port (port is just fine, have other drives connected).
One was having trouble connecting in general, it would show up & then play dead for a while after being unplugged/replugged & then show up again on another occasion...every time I disconnected it, it had a 50/50 chance of showing up ever again.
Clunky, you could feel it moving in an abnormal way when you held it in your hand.
The other drive had the same issues but to a lesser extent.
Hardly a reliable back up solution.
Luckily, New Egg gave me a full refund :) I ended up getting 2X Seagate, 2TB USB 3.0, work fine as of never know...

3 out of 5 eggs 2nd Not DOA but quirky

    Pros: Big, USB3 - fast

Cons: I have had this drive about 3 mos now. It works and is very fast, however it becomes disconnected after a while. I have it attached to a Win2003Server. It is always recognized on boot, but always becomes disconnected after a while (hours or days). Pulling the plug and reinsterting gets it reconnected. But this is a pain. I only paid $129 for 3TB external, so I still feel like I got my moneys worth, and I think the disk integrity is fine so im not worried. If it had a power switch this would be less inconvenient.

I would buy another if it goes back to 129.

Bottom Line: It claims to be stackable, but it is not obvious to me how this is any more stackable than a pile of books.

    3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great capacity, and good read/write speeds.

Cons: Bought 10 of these before Newegg tossed a limit up, as off-site backups for work. Occasionally they do not power up. Tested power adapters, and they work fine on some drives, not others. Identified 4 drives have the 'occasional' power issues, and 2 that will NOT power up at all.

This started happening after 2 months of MINIMAL use, so warranty times are pretty much gone for easy returns via Newegg.

Bottom Line: I have had good experienced with Hitachi drives, so this leads me to think my problems here are with the external enclosures these are in. We also have 10 USB 2.0 versions, and they are just rock solid good.

4 out of 5 eggs HUGE!

Pros: This drive is huge, I love it because it will store my entire DVD collection and still leave room for a full PC backup.

Cons: The USB cable that comes with it is too short. the Hitachi cloud backup is too slow so I didnt go with that.

Bottom Line: A Off switch would have been nice but it is no con so I wont mention it there.

4 out of 5 eggs Works as it should

Pros: First one was DOA, light flashed but wouldn't start up, RMA'd and second works as expected. HD Tune shows average and burst up to 160 MB/s. Got it for about 150 on sale and/or just before the Thailand disaster that has made HDD prices skyrocket.

Cons: Seems some are having problems with this but if you got a working one then it's all fine.

    3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Wireless service is nice, good price for 3tb

Cons: very sensitive usb/cords - returned it because it would often disconnect and take a while to reconnected. Be careful. Might be ok with desktop (accidentally bought for laptop) - will return and get Western Digital or G Drive - for second backup.
