    Love it

Probably one of the best network switches I have worked with. Setup was easy, just plug it in, plugin all your network devices along with your internet connection, and your on in seconds. It's that easy. All computers with GB LAN cards were ... Read more

3 out of 5 eggs No issues for 5 years.

Pros: Bought 2 of these back in 2011. 1 of them is still going strong

Cons: The other one conked out on me. Now it shows a green blinking light for the power and no other lights come on.

3 out of 5 eggs Power supply squeals

Pros: -The device itself is awesome so far.
    -Does full gigabit.
-Power and lan ports on back optimized for on desk placements. (one of the big reasons i chose this unit)
-Good size and very professional style, without looking like it belongs in an attic.
-Subtle lights, and activity blinking isnt annoying. just sits there and does its thing like a boss.
-Works off a 100 ft cat6 from my router and distributes 7 ft cat6 to a couple computers.
-Heavy so the cords dont pull it around.
-TRANSPARENT! dont even know its there, and QOS on router functions properly.
-Over 950 mbps when just through the switch.

Cons: -DONT under-estimate the squealing power unit.
-It squeals under load, just like what they say in the 5 port version reviews.
-Its loud enough to hear 5 feet away.

Bottom Line: I would not buy this again or wont recommend it simply because the power unit makes a noise. i would have happily paid 10 or even 15 more just for a high quality power unit. whats with power supplies these days?

Dont get me wrong! everything else about the unit is as good as it gets. i really wanted to give it 5 eggs, i really, really did.

But i would much rather spend the money to buy another power unit then on the return shipping and restocking fees. Meanwhile im pondering if i should run it off the 5v rail of an old computer PSU.

Also, on all my NIC's, i have all "green" settings, interrupt moderation, and flow control turned OFF. all devices on my network are gigabit.

3 out of 5 eggs Version 3 took away features...

    Pros: Cheap
    8 Gigabit ports
    Smaller form factor
    Smaller wall-wart

Cons: Took away tabs for shielded cables
Took away "link speed" diagnostic lights

Bottom Line: I got several of these a few years ago, needed a couple more (to replace one older unit and expand my network more). The model number is the same but they have newer "versions" now. The product information page is no longer accurate reflecting the features that were taken away. The current version lacks the second row of LEDs for link speed diagnostic and also lacks the shielding tabs around the network ports.

    Manufacturer Responses:

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the 8-Port Gigabit GREENnet Switch, TEG-S80g. We will review the product listing to ensure it reflects the products specifications correctly. The latest version does not include LED’s for speed. The current LEDs are link LEDs. 5 out of 5 eggs Over 3 years and still doing its job.

Pros: Bought 9/12, and still going strong. Does what it's supposed to, sits in the background invisibly unless you need another device attached to it. No hit on speeds, I'm on gigabit fiber, and speed tests show over 950Mbit up and down passing through this switch.

    Cons: None

Bottom Line: Does what you'd want it to, just works.

4 out of 5 eggs Nifty Switch

    Pros: - Nice chassis.
    - Good performance from what I can tell.
    - Simple & effective as long as you know what you're doing when building a network.

    Cons: None at this time.

Bottom Line: I've been using this unit for the past 9 months or so.
I needed it because my current network setup has a router with limited ports. So I have all my equipment plug into the switch, and have the switch plugged into the router.
It has not given me any issues, and I plan on gladly buying another one for family once I have another router built.
It's cheaper & easier than buying multi-port NICs for the router.

5 out of 5 eggs Good, simple network appliance

    Pros: - Small form factor
    - Lights not overly bright
    - Doesn't seem to generate any heat at all

Cons: -Awkward to wall mount, because the ports aren't labeled on the top and bottom, so depending on how you mount it, it may be difficult to see which port you're working with.

Bottom Line: Not much to say here. Works, seems to do its job well. Looks like a total of 2gbit of throughput across the switch. Tested with 4K/9K frames and it worked just fine.

    5 out of 5 eggs

    Pros: Cheap full gig switch.
Running with no issues for ~2 years.

Cons: Wish it was managed too.
Some people have complained about it failing, probably has cheapo capacitors that fail.

1 out of 5 eggs TEG=-S80g Not so good

Pros: When it worked, it worked great.

Cons: Upgraded my network recently and decided to move the switch to a new location. When I plugged it in after moving it, the unit was dead. I thought it might be the power strip so I plugged it in directly to the wall. Still no power. I then read the reviews on Newegg and saw I had lots of company. I expected more from Trendnet.
