5 out of 5 eggs Perfect

Pros: great image quality, nice night vision / IR quality, PoE, wiring through the mount so nothing exposed, nice clean install, solid build, very small

I gambled (because they had no reviews yet) on two of these when they were on sale. I'm glad I did, they were a steal. Setup was super quick and easy (actual wiring and mounting through my attic was another story).

Now I get 30fps 1080p h.264 video encoded right in the camera. I'm streaming it over rtsp and saving the stream directly with BlueIris so the computer doesn't have to do any work re-encoding the video. Couldn't ask for more!

    Cons: Documentation is poor.

Bottom Line: Setup is super simple if you are experienced with networking and camera / video settings (dhcp, port forwarding, codecs, bitrates, etc.) Camera firmware follows all the standards so if you're less experienced you might want to stay away or find a techie friend to help you. The instructions are minimal at best.

1 out of 5 eggs DO NOT BUY. UNABLE TO USE.

Pros: The camera powered up as soon as I enabled PoE on the Ethernet switch port.

Camera can be powered via PoE or via external 12V input.

Cons: This product has so many issues I don't know where to begin, and the list below is not even complete by my notes.

This camera is supposedly "vandal proof". I don't think standard Philips-head screws are "vandal proof" as you can buy the appropriate screwdriver almost anywhere.

Installation card inside box refers to a CD. There is no CD in the box and I bought these cameras "new" from Newegg.

You have to download the "discovery" tool and the UI from the vendor's web site. It's slightly less than 100MB download.

Product spec claims DHCP support. I never ever once have seen this camera contact my DHCP server. My DHCP server works flawlessly with every other DHCP-enabled device inside my house (Windows boxes, Linux boxes, network devices, embedded devices, you name it) so I am certain it is not a DHCP server issue.

You have to use the "discovery" tool to change the default IP address. In my case the default IPv4 address was 192.0.0.64. There was no place in the "discovery" GUI to enable of disable DHCP.

The vendor's manual for their UI is illustrated, but that does not make up for the useless UI that it is. Some windows title are in CHINESE. Most error messages are cryptic at best.

The actual downloaded manual (PDF format) was definitely written by someone with poor mastery of the English language as the grammar and wording are generally "awkward".

Once I configured a camera in the UI it was briefly reported that the UI was connected to a channel on the camera, then it quickly disconnected. This issue is constant.

The UI has a login and access control system that is definitely NOT documented. I am still guessing my way through those setups. When I figured out how to enable access to the camera for the account I used to log into the UI, the UI interface reflected I had access, (showed a checkmark) then quickly changed to showing I didn't have access (empty checkbox).

The claim of "plug and play easy setup" is completely misleading.

I am unable to prove at least 40 percent of the networking protocols claimed to be supported by this camera.

Bottom Line: I have yet to get any video out of these cameras, much less something as simple as "live video". I bought 2 of them because I wanted IP cameras that could be powered by PoE.

I still have time to experiment with these cameras before I have to make the dreaded "keep it" or "return it" decision. Right now I am seriously considering returning BOTH cameras (same model) that I bought.

I think LaView may have "lost" this customer.
