Sending text messages from a computer is an important functionality that many businesses need to have. This can be done to send out marketing texts, respond to customer inquiries, or any number of other things. Fortunately, there are a number of different ways that you can send a SMS from your PC to someone’s phone quickly and easily.

The method that you use to send these texts will depend on a number of factors including why you want to send the texts, how many recipients the text will have, and more. Take a look at the following ways that you can send texts from your business PC to see which one will fit best for you.

Use Google Voice

Google Voice is a service where Google will provide users with a unique phone number that they can use to make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages, and more. Depending on how you use this service, it can be free, or it may come with a reasonable cost.

Once you select your new Google Voice number, you need to verify it with your real phone number, which is where all the messages will be forwarded. After you have everything setup, you can begin sending and receiving text messages in just seconds from your computer using the web interface for Google Voice. This is a very simple interface that will allow you to manage multiple different text conversations from one place.

This option is generally going to be the simplest and most effective way for most people to send text messages from their computer. To get started, simply visit voice.google.com.

Microsoft Phone Link

Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11 have a built-in application called Phone Link that allows you to connect your phone to your PC. From there, you can look at recent photos from your phone, send website links, and most importantly send and receive text messages. This is a great option for companies that have one phone number that receives texts messages but wants to have users at a computer to be able to reply.

The main downside to this option is that the functionality is very limited for Apple iPhone users. If you use an iPhone, you will only be able to send websites to and from the phone, not send text messages. If, however, you use an Android device, you can set this functionality up by running the Your Phone app up on your computer and going through the simple phone registration steps.

Text Via E-mail

If you know what carrier the recipient has for their cell service, you can send text messages via a normal e-mail client. To do this, you simply type the phone number of the person you want to text into the To: field, followed by the recipients carrier code. Each cell phone provider has their own code setup. For example, to send to Verizon phone numbers you would send it to 555-555-1212@vtext.com. This would route the text message to the phone number.

One thing to keep in mind with this option is that some email providers, and some cell service providers, will be likely to filter these messages out as spam. This is because this method is often used by spammers to send out marketing or scam text messages to potential customers or victims. If you just want to give it a quick try, however, this is likely the easiest way to send a text message from your computer.

Browser Extensions

You can add a browser extension to your web browser that will allow you to send and receive text messages with ease. For Google Chrome, for example, you can install the Send Your Email to SMS extension to begin using this feature. This particular extension allows you to send just 10 texts per month for free, but if you want to send more, they do offer a monthly fee that will allow you to send unlimited texts. There are a variety of browser extensions out there so no matter what browser you use, you should be able to take advantage of this feature.

Web Based Services

One last option to consider is to sign up for a web-based service that will allow you to send and receive text messages from your computer. These services typically work very similar to Google Voice but may offer some premium services such as being able to send from a variety of numbers and much more. The downside to these options is that they will typically require you to pay a monthly fee to use them.

There are many different text messaging services out there that you can choose from, so if you want to go this route, make sure to consider each option. Pick the one that will give you the features that you need at a price that works with your budget.

Is Texting from a Computer Right for You?

While there are obviously quite a few different ways that you can send a text message from a computer, you should really start by asking if this is something you want to do. Texting customers or potential customers can be a great way to market your services, but only if the customers are expecting the text.

If customers believe that you are spamming them with unsolicited texts, they may get upset and be much less willing to do business with you in the future. If managing your texts from a computer is something you want to do, give the above options a try to see which one will work best for you.
