The Alphacool Core 6x 4-Pin PWM/DRGB Splitter with SATA Power Connector is a fan and aRGB splitter. It has six 4-pin ports for controlling fans via PWM and six 3-pin ports (5V) for controlling digitally addressable RGB elements. It takes its signals from the mainboard and its power from a SATA plug of the PC power supply.
The splitter can be connected with the included aRGB and PWM mainboard cables, each to an internal header of its own. Up to 6 aRGB illuminated fans can be plugged into the controller, as long as their total power consumption stays within the maximum. The SATA cable carries the load, and thus the connected fans are sufficiently supplied with power.
On the motherboard side, the aRGB output must be a 3 pin terminal and not a 4 pin one: the manual warns that damage can result from an improper connection. With lighting and no fans to run, the Core 11x 3-Pin DRGB Splitter has eleven aRGB channels.
The master fan on the M1 port sets the pace: the speed of all connected fans and their aRGB settings will be controlled by it. Socket M1 carries the tacho signal, so the manual says it must be populated first.
The box also includes a self-adhesive Velcro tape that allows the splitter to be positioned anywhere in the case. Two protective films come off it, one to stick the tape under the controller and one to stick the controller to the case.
