The Alphacool Core Thermal Pad Soft 6.2W/mk 100x100x3mm is a silicone-based thermal pad, 100 x 100 mm and 3 mm thick, rated 6.2 W/mK (±10%), one pad per pack. It is blue, electrically non-conductive and can be used to cool electronic components of all kinds. More thermal pads of 3 mm and more are in their own section.
Alphacool calls this its performance thermal pad, for any place where it is essential to effectively dissipate waste heat. In addition to voltage converters and VRAMs on graphics cards, it names the electronic components of Playstation and Xbox game consoles. Those can also be cooled with it, greatly improving their performance and durability by Alphacool's account.
Alphacool's answer is the material. The Soft heat conduction pad is characterized by what Alphacool describes as optimal compressibility. Due to its low hardness and a natural stickiness, Alphacool says, the pad adapts perfectly to surfaces. It compensates for unevenness between components and thus ensures a significant improvement in heat transfer, in Alphacool's words. The data sheet sums the pad up in five points: high thermal conductivity, low thermal resistance, high compressibility and compliancy, natural tack and good electrical insulation.
Alphacool puts the service life down to a special material composition that reduces the risk of silicone bleeding. By its account the pad can be used for a substantially longer period of time than conventional heat conduction pads without significantly losing performance.
Alphacool credits the pad with excellent electrical insulation, and the table below gives the volume resistance. That is why it can also cool electronic components in many other devices. Alphacool lists electric vehicles, autopilot systems, cell phones, servers, motherboards, power supplies, LCD TVs, notebooks, telecommunication devices, access points, memory modules, etc.
