Weta Workshop was intrinsically involved in the design and physical effects manufacture for all three films of The Lord of the Rings (TM) trilogy. It takes hundreds of hours to design, sculpt, model make, mold, and paint the prototype for each new Middle-earth piece. Whether it be a prop replica, beautiful environment, or iconic character, we treat our collectibles with the same level of care and attention to detail that we bring to our film work. The skull of a Balrog is an exceptionally rare specimen; due to the creature's transient nature-composed of shadow and flame-powerful and complex arcane methods were employed to achieve calcification of its remains.
This preservation presents an invaluable opportunity to study the ancient origins and dark power that define this formidable being. Massive in scale, the skull of this Balrog displays elongated, curving horns reminiscent of a goat's, which appear to fuse seamlessly with the frontal bone to form a protective, armour-like carapace.
