The Alphacool Rise Aurora 120 mm fan (120x120x25mm) is a 120 x 120 x 25 mm fan for a radiator or a case. It runs from 0 to 2500 rpm on a 4-pin PWM connector and has 20 digitally addressable 5V RGB LEDs in the frame and hub, on a JST 3-pin connector of their own. The larger size is the Rise Aurora 140mm fan.
There are LEDs in two places, built into the frame and into the hub, and together they illuminate the entire fan. Alphacool says this creates a unique illumination that looks very impressive. Thanks to the recessed light diffusers the light is distributed evenly, so you will not see sporadic uneven lighting or, as Alphacool's page adds, individual LEDs.
Over PWM the fan can be controlled across its whole speed range. In addition, it offers a silent mode: the fan can be regulated down to 0 rpm, and then it will only start when it is needed, above 350 rpm. At 800 rpm the fan is nearly silent, but Alphacool says it still offers a good airflow paired with a high static pressure. The figures it gives are 118.9 m³/h and 3.17 mm/H2O, and its table lists that air flow as the maximum. This makes the fan, in Alphacool's word, perfect for mounting on radiators of a water cooling system or, alternatively, for use as a case fan.
Decouplers are located directly on the corners of the frame. They are soft foam pads that reduce the transmission of vibrations to the case, which in turn reduces noise. Tear-off edges on the fan blades also provide what Alphacool calls a significant reduction in noise.
At 40 cm long, the PWM cable allows the fan to be connected straight to the motherboard or a fan controller, without the need for additional adapter cables or extensions. The digital aRGB LED illumination is controlled separately, via the JST connector. If required, adapters are available to change this into a standard 3 pin aRGB connector.
