Holiday Shopping Poll Results: Laptops and 3D TVs Under the Tree Please! Newegg Reveals Shoppers' Wants for the Holidays

Laptops, 3D TVs, Tablet PCs and Smart Phones Rank High on Wish Lists; Over 63% Say Online Shopping Has Made Gift Purchasing Easier and More Convenient

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA - For this holiday season, many folks are hoping for a gift that will literally put them in the "laptop of luxury" -- but a 3D TV set under the tree would also be a much welcome sugar plum! That's according to a new online holiday shopping poll conducted by Newegg Inc., the largest pure-play technology-focused online retailer in the U.S.

Laptops, Phones, Games and ... I Want My 3D TV!
The online holiday poll asked Newegg visitors in the U.S. and Canada to answer questions about their gift preferences this year, among other things. When asked: "Which of the following would you most like to receive as a gift his holiday season?", more than 39% answered "Laptop Computer," with "3D Television" coming in second at over 26%. "Tablet PCs" scored over 13% on the wish list, with "Smart Phones" and "Digital Cameras" rounding out the survey at approximately 11% and 10%, respectively. Notably, in video games, another very hot gift category this year, when asked "Are you interested in the Xbox Kinect or the Playstation Move?", approximately 20% answered "Only Kinect," close to 16% said "Only Move," 45% said "Neither," and almost 8% are serious console gamers who want both.

How Has Online Shopping Changed Shopping Habits?
This year, it appears that more and more gift givers are using the Internet as their personal Santa's Sleigh. When asked: "On a scale of 1 to 5 how much easier and more convenient would you say online shopping has made gift-purchasing for you?", more than 63% of respondents checked the highest ranking (#5), and more than 60% of respondents indicated that they will use the Internet to purchase at least 75% of their gifts this holiday season.



Spending More or Less on Gifts This Year?
Not surprisingly, the poll also showed that people are still wary of overspending during tough times. When asked: "Given the changing economic climate do you anticipate spending more or less on the holidays this year?", over 55% said "Less," while almost 31% checked "Same."
