    i love these hdds.

running four of these in RAID 0. raid performance scaled flawlessly, getting between 450 and 550 read/write average on the outer 450gb or so of the 2tb total. i did a 4x raid0 of these knowing that these are single platter, meaning much higher ... Read more

4 out of 5 eggs Still chugging along

Pros: I bought this drive back in 2011 and I am still using it to this day as my main drive. It just recently started performing poorly, off and on it seems slow. I've had it for about 5 years so I'd say that's pretty good.

Cons: No real cons to speak of. Maybe every now and then in a silent room you can hear it working but never loudly.

Bottom Line: With the price of SSD now I'd go with this only as a storage solution only and you'd be very happy with this one.

5 out of 5 eggs Works Great for Years

Pros: Has been working as my media and game drive. While it didn't run my OS, its been taking the brunt of my read and writes without fail since 12.2011 (its 10.2015 now)

Cons: None so far, its a 500GB 7200RMP drive.. its not an SSD (which runs my OS)

    4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Haven't had any issues so far with it.

Cons: The price for how much space you get....seems a little high to me for only 500GB.

Bottom Line: I only purchased this to throw all my movie files and anything else that would unnecessarily overload my SSD. (I built a SSD-HDD hybrid PC) It works for what I need and that's good enough for me.

5 out of 5 eggs Works Well

    Pros: Fast

    Cons: Not free?

Bottom Line: Reliable, I have had mine for 2.5 years and not a flaw. Worth it for that extra space for pictures and videos. Loads games fairly quickly too (i'm usually 3rd one on in 64 man servers)

1 out of 5 eggs HD Broke a year later

Pros: Was quiet when it worked.

Cons: Broke a little over a year later..

Bottom Line: Shorted lifespan of any HD i've ever owned by far. Greatly disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggs Junk

    Pros: None

Cons: Worked for 2 days. I normally keep my hard drives longer than that.

Bottom Line: HGST would have done an exchange, but they didn't offer a refund. I didn't want another piece of junk, so I declined. From here on, I will stick with WD or Seagate.

1 out of 5 eggs This is getting expensive.

    Pros: Great specs.

Cons: The new one that I bought died within 2 weeks of installation. I went through the RMA process, to be honest was quite painless. I paid the return postage, 14.00. In a few weeks I received a RE-MANUFACTURED drive. I bought a new one that was defective. I should have received a new one in it's place. I installed the drive and within two weeks it died. Now I have another return shipping to get another re-manufactured drive. If this one is defective I will cut my losses. I am now approaching 100.00 for this drive.

Bottom Line: I hesitated buying this drive because I usually build with Seagate and Western Digital. I decided to purchase when I saw that this was a WD company I took a chance on it. I learned an expensive lesson.

4 out of 5 eggs Nice little upgrade

Pros: Installed easily; initialized without any fuss; accessing additional drive isn't slower than default (C:) drive.

    Cons: None, yet

Bottom Line: I have run on just 80 GB for a while, I felt it was time for an upgrade. To make sure I had something compatible, I did a bit of research, and also chose to find a harddrive from the same brand and family as my current harddrive. This way I knew, for sure, my BIOS wouldn't reject it - and it didn't. I installed it easily, although I had to run out and get an additional SATA cord. I have had no problems with it yet. We'll see what a year or two brings.
