The NI USB-8473s module is a single-port, high-speed CAN interface that connects a PC to CAN networks and devices. The USB-8473s includes NI-CAN driver software, providing a powerful frame-based API for rapid application development.

Synchronization

The 3-pin COMBICON synchronization connector on the USB-8473s is used to synchronize the internal hardware timebase with other devices (e.g., USB CAN and LIN interfaces, as well as NI data acquisition, motion, and vision devices) using a 1 MHz, 10 MHz, or 20 MHz clock. Synchronization eliminates clock drift between devices and allows CAN data to be correlated with data from other devices via triggering between devices.

All-in-One Design

The convenient all-in-one design includes a 2-meter fixed USB cable and built-in transceiver, requiring no additional cables or accessories for rapid application operation. The USB-8473s is bus-powered and features standard channel-to-bus isolation of up to 500 VDC for up to 2 seconds.

Hardware Timestamping

Hardware timestamping helps users log information with microsecond-precision timestamps to reconstruct network events. The USB-8473s interface connects to the CAN network via a 9-pin male D-Sub (DB9) connector.
