What You Need to Know About Tablet PCs

Introduction

A tablet PC is a type of portable computer that is a hybrid of a laptop and a tablet, with the ability to be used as either type. For professionals that require computers that are more portable than traditional laptops but still able to run the same type of programs, tablet PCs are an excellent alternative. When choosing the right tablet PC for your needs, consider the following factors.

Screen Size

The size of a tablet PC’s screen is a major determining factor for its portability. Generally, a smaller screen allows for a slimmer and lighter computer. If your professionals will often be carrying the tablet PC, a smaller screen is ideal. A tablet PC with a larger screen functions well as a laptop, but will not be as ideal for professionals that require a more portable solution.

Keyboard

Keyboards for tablet PCs are typically either detachable or can be completely covered by the screen. The latter is often referred to as a convertible tablet PC. A detachable design allows users to separate the screen from the keyboard and use the screen as a tablet. A convertible tablet PC features a screen that can be moved so that it can cover the keyboard.

Processor

When purchasing a computer system, choosing one with the right processor is a central concern. More powerful processors may have faster performance, but they can also generate more heat and drain battery power quicker. On the other end of the spectrum, lower-end processors can sometimes underperform when users have CPU-intensive tasks.

Storage Drive

There are two types of storage drives used in tablet PCs, solid state drives and hard disk drives. Some premium models may be equipped with both types, but generally most have only one drive. You will find that models equipped with hard drives are typically less expensive than those with solid state drives. Tablet PCs with solid state drives load files quicker and are more shock resistant than those with hard disk drives.
